Ferguson Burning

This is the latest from Fox News:

There were 29 arrests made after protesters fired more than 100 gunshots, burned dozens buildings, looted stores and vandalized police cars in Ferguson, Mo. after a grand jury did not indict a police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager in August, St. Louis Unified Command said in a press conference Tuesday morning.

Heavily armed police fired pepper spray and smoke canisters to disperse the crowds of protesters. Police seized a .45 mm automatic handgun as well.

“We have no loss of life, but I am disappointed the night turned out this way,” St. Louis Police Department Chief Jon Belmar said.

Belmar said he heard more than 150 shots ring off in the night.

“What I’ve seen tonight is probably worse than the worst night we had in August,” Belmar said.

This was predictable. The Usual Suspects have been inciting riot here for the last two months. Do they not arrest people for inciting riot anymore? There are a lot of people on that list. Big names, like Al Sharpton, who is a close adviser to President Obama. You might could even add Obama himself to that list. I don’t think anything that he has said quite rose to the level of actually inciting riot, but he has made his sympathies well known, and has done nothing substantive to quell emotions or quiet down the riot.

The facts of the case, as presented to the Grand Jury, left no reasonable doubt that Wilson acted in justified self-defense. None. Both witness testimony and forensic evidence backed up his story completely. Yes, there were witnesses who said that they saw something different, in some cases wildly different, but these witnesses were not backed up by any of the forensic evidence. Justice was served. When you have something like this, you do need to investigate and determine if a crime has been committed, but when you determine that no crime has been committed, you have a responsibility not to indict someone just for the sake of having an indictment to please the mob.

Al lot has been made of the fact that Wilson had a gun and Brown was unarmed. First and foremost I want to say that this is a damned good reason why Brown shouldn’t have attacked Wilson. If you attack a man with a gun, you are likely to get shot. This isn’t from any evil intent on the part of the man with the gun. If you don’t want to get shot, simply do not attack. An unarmed man represents serious threat to an armed man if that man is afraid to use his weapon in self-defense. If you carry a gun or knife, you’d better be prepared to use it. The officer was in justifiable fear for his life when Brown attempted to get his gun. Being in fear for his life, he was justified in killing Brown. That Brown was unarmed is simply a distraction. He was a lethal threat, and he was dealt with accordingly.

The attack by the Left on Wilson was a two pronged attack. First and foremost it was an attack on law enforcement. These people didn’t want to see justice done. They wanted revenge on the white cop because racism. That doesn’t mean Wilson was racist, or, really, that these people are being oppressed because of their race. They live in a stew of manufactured outrage over racism that, for the most part, exists only in their own minds. The second prong of the attack was a repeat of the attack on the right of self-defense that we saw in the Martin/Zimmerman case. The Left hate guns not so much because they are guns, but because they are effective tools of self-defense. The Left hate self-sufficiency in any form, and self-defense offends them more than ordinary self-sufficiency because it shows that the power of the State is not unlimited. There are times the State can’t protect you, and in those times you can defend yourself. That thought offends the Statists the way serving a Muslim a plate of hog jowls would offend him.

At the end of the day here, justice was done. Wilson was investigated and exonerated. He did the right thing when he killed Brown. Brown died as a direct result of his criminal behavior. The mob didn’t want justice. It wanted revenge. Thus we have the riots. My prayers are with the good people of Ferguson. I hope that they are well armed, and can defend themselves when the State can’t be there to defend them.
